5 Largest and Busiest Port in The USA

Seaway has taught the world how to do business at low cost with less time. It is a fact that more than 90% of the commodities transported by seaway before rail and road. Port is a place where the transportation of goods. When goods come by ship then where goods are load or unload, that place is called port. 

Port plays a very important role for any business. If the transaction of goods is not done properly, then there is a big effect on economically. That's why America doesn't take its port work lightly. In 2019, 50 ports of the United States created a record by handling 2363 million MT of cargo. Shipping within the United States has seen a strong trend since the 1600s.


1. Los Angeles Port 

The Port of Los Angeles is the largest port in North America. The Port of Los Angeles is elaboration over 7500 acres and handles 20% of the cargo reaching in the United States. Los Angeles Port being the busiest port, TEU of this port was increased by 5.5 percent. It was 8.8 million TEU in 2018, then it was increased to 9.3 million TEU in 2019. The main business of this port is with China and Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea. This port is known for being the 19th busiest port in the world. $1.2 billion value of freight is believed to be shipped through this port in every day. 

2. The Port of Long Beach 

Right next door to the Port of Los Angeles is its little sister, the Port of Long Beach. It is less than 30 kilometers from the Port Los Angeles. This port is one of the business routes that connecting Asia and North America. Managing 4.9 million TEU in 2015 and performing 12.1% of market share in North America. The total size of this port is 3200 acres with 80 cargo berths, $180 billion value of cargo is shipped through this port every year.

3. Port of New York & New Jersey 

The largest port in the New York-Newark metropolitan area is Port of New York & New Jersey. This port has covered around  25 mile radius region of Statue of Liberty National Monument. The third largest port in the United States is the Port of New York & New Jersey, Even the east coast of the United States is considered the largest port. 2 foreign trade area is connected with this port water way. In 2015, 4.5 million teu of cargo shipped in and out. 

4. Georgia Port 

Georgia Port has two preparatory  ports which are Savannah and Brunswick. The Port of Savannah provide only the Largest Terminal Container vantage in North America. Port of Brunswick leases over 500 acres spaces for imports auto by the auto industry. Automobiles, heavy machinery, agricultural materials are mainly transacted by Georgia Port as its primary port.

5.  Seattle- Tacoma Port

In 2015, Washington's two main ports were added to the business for cargo terminals which are the Port of Seattle and the Port of Tacoma. In 2015, these 2 ports together supplied 5.3% of the freight in the North American market and simultaneously managing 2.1 million TEU. Increased traffic to shipping containers at its Seattle and Tacoma ports in 2017. After that, in April 2017, this interconnecting port had set new records with their first strongest international container since 2005.
